” Proposing on a golden sunset ”
Rhodes Island, Greece, August 2019.
I have always felt honored when young couples turn to us, a team of photographers & cinematographers,
to immortalize one of the most important and noteworthy moments of your relationship
– a wedding proposal in Rhodes.
When Gordon explained to me that he was thinking to propose to his girlfriend, Tas, on their upcoming trip to Rhodes this summer, I was already excited.
In his message, he asked me if, in Rhodes, our wedding photographer could cover their marriage proposal.
Moreover, we were also to help him choose a proper place for a romantic and intimate marriage proposal on the island.
Last but not least, the whole thing had to be kept a secret from her!!!
I did not think twice before booking my tickets and stay in Rhodes, as at the time hadn’t visited the island already.
Moreover, I did thorough research on possible, good-looking, not so crowded places, suitable for the occasion.
It’s true that we take great pleasure that we go about capturing your most intimate moments.
In fact, this marriage proposal photoshoot in Rhodes turned to be one of the most memorable and enjoyable pre-wedding photoshoots we did in Greece this summer.
We agreed with Gordon, that the best way to coordinate this experience would be to actually tell her about having a photo shoot, but disclose the part of the engagement.
This way, it did turn out a real surpise for her – her emotions were really caught on camera.
We were to have a photo session at a nice location, and a very special moment, he would propose, and I would catch this on film.
Therefore, we started the photo shoot casually, in a neaby village I noticed when I was passing-by.
There seems that Greece is filled with beauty waiting to be explored by those who dare not take the extra step.
We found a beautiful church, where we used the beatiful texture of the door to give feeling to the shot.
As for the location of the shot, we chose the deserted castle of Kritinia, which lies on the west side of the island.
This way, we could have a great scenic background of the setting sun as he would bend on his knees and propose.
The Castle of Kritinia is one eleven well perserved castles on Rhodos island. The castle was built in 1472 to protect the inhabitants of the nearby village from the attacks of the Ottoman fleets. With some fantastic views over the Aegean to the islands and a stunning sunset, the Kritinia castle is definatelly worth a visit.
And there it stood, on the middle of the aegean vastness, a castle made of stone.
There, with the immersive Aegean sea for our background, and the sun painting the whole area gold, I shouted:
„The view from up here is majestic”
Actually, this was the secret keyword we agreed in time with Gordon.
That meant that the scene was perfect, me ready for him to propose.
Everything was set.
Actually Gordon was really relieved – he has some pressure building up to the moment of the proposal.
Afterwards, we enjoyed one of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen this summer.
The whole of the Aegean was visible from up there.
We viewed some distant inslands, someone said it was Chalki.
No wonder the Knights decided to build a Castle on the spot.
A forgotten olive tree had grown on the ruins where once the stone walls stood.
Under his leaves we turned for shadow, to protect from the last glimpses of the August sun.
Olive leaves shined with orange hues, as they danced to a gentle wind blowing from the ocean.
As the sun set behind the Aegean vastness, the sea was colored bright yellow that turned to orange.
Finally, red marks filled the lowest part of the waves.
Olive leaves shined with orange hues, as they danced to a gentle wind blowing from the ocean.
